ReadWriteWeb has an interesting article on PC security: “Is Your Pc Part of a Botnet?” The things criminals are able to do these days are quite scary. Please stay safe: Use a firewall, antivirus, antiphishing and keep your software updated regularly. Remember, the biggest threat to your online security is between the chair and the computer – you! Don’t click on links sent to you in an email from someone you don’t know.

I like playing around on Twitter. I have used Monitter before. I also tried something similar to Twittearth. I look forward to trying out the other Twitter visualization tools. 6 Unique Twitter Visualizations from Mashable

Make Your PC Smile, Twitter VS Google, Government 2.0

Free Tools Keep PC Healthy

Free Tools Keep PC Healthy

Make Your PC Smile: Here are several free tools that will make your computing experience safer and more reliable: Make Your PC Smile

Twitter VS Google: There are things that Twitter can do that Google is not suited for. For example, Twitter can process real time events. Google can index an event, but not in real time. With Twitter, companies can interact with the consumer and monitor gripes, customer satisfaction, and any mention of their brand. This can be done by using Twitter’s search function. With Google I can monitor such things also – but the difference is I can only see what happened days, weeks, or months ago. Read More Here

Government 2.0: The Obama Administration has its work cut out for it:  a war on two fronts, an economy teetering on the brink of destruction, and a floundering health care system. If that isn’t bad enough, the various federal agencies are often using old technology that doesn’t do the job. Enter Web 2.0! With a few sweeps of his pen, President Obama will usher in a new technological age for Washington . . . or will he? ReadWriteWeb’s 2 cents

Once more we visit those organizations that must have been hitting the pipe when they made recent decisions. Who’s on Crack

Although I haven’t yet chosen to follow any celebrity twitterers, an entertaining article I read almost made me do so. These folks are famous and they have something to say (in 140 characters or less). 10 Celebrity Twitters

First it was the iPhone. Next came the T-Mobile G1. Soon it will be the Palm Pre that has my pulse racing, while I begin to salivate.  If you have lots of time on your hands, here is a Palm Pre walkthrough video (run time: 30 min.)

Social Networks Unhealthy? Pogue’s Tidbits – Power Bricks and Ethel Merman

david-pogue1

Can social networking be unhealthy? I think the thrust of this article is that anything done to excess can be bad for you. Yes spending tons of time in front of the computer can result in weaker social interactions, and poorer social skills. This in turn can directly affect one’s health. On the other hand I have seen social networking lead to people getting together. For example, people on Twitter regularly have “tweetups” where they get together and socialize. The bottom line is: it’s all about being balanced – social networking can be a double edged sword. One can use it to enhance one’s sociability, or, it can be used as a crutch to replace face to face interactions. Read Article Here
